It is possible to provide syslog-ng with global options that affect all the logging commands, although they can be overridden, if required. For further details, see Section 7.2.2.3, Configuring destinations.
There are several different options available, some of them are especially useful when dealing with log entries coming from other machines on the network. By default, these entries are recorded using the sender host's IP address, but by using options use-fqdn()
, use-dns()
, chain-hostnames()
and keep-hostname()
it is also possible to look up the hostnames for servers generating log entries.
For a full list of the available options and their descriptions, see Appendix C, Further readings.
