17.1. Procedure – Monitoring PNS with Munin

Purpose: 

To monitor your Proxedo Network Security Suite hosts with Munin, complete the following steps. Using Munin, you can monitor the memory usage of your hosts, and the number of running processes and threads for your PNS instances.

Steps: 

1. Login to the host locally, or remotely using SSH. For details on enabling SSH access, see Section 9.4, Local services on PNS.

2. Install the required packages using the sudo apt-get install <package-name> command. The package you have to install depends on the role of the host.

   • For PNS hosts, install the zorp-pro-munin-plugins package.

   • For MS hosts, install the zms-munin-plugins package.

   • For CF hosts, install the zcv-munin-plugins package.

   • If a host has multiple roles, install every applicable package. For example, if MS and CF are running on the same host, install the zms-munin-plugins and zcv-munin-plugins packages.

3. Install the munin-node package and configure it as needed for your environment. For details, see the Munin documentation.

4. Login to your MS host using MC, and enable access to the TCP/4949 port. For details, see Section 9.4, Local services on PNS.

5. Repeat this procedure for every Proxedo Network Security Suite host that you want to integrate into your monitoring system.
